Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) at Eco Green: Building a Sustainable Future

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a commitment by producers to manage the entire lifecycle of their products, including the collection and recycling of post-consumer waste. The goal is to reintegrate these materials into the system, recovering valuable resources and promoting sustainability.

EPR Process begins with:

Phase I – Registration and Preparation of EPR Plan According to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, entities involved in using plastic packaging—whether as a Producer, Importer, or Brand Owner (PIBO)—must register to fulfill their Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations for the plastic waste they generate.

Since March 2022, the registration process has been centralized through the Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) portal managed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

When registering, entities must provide comprehensive details, including state-wise data on pre- and post-consumer plastic waste, information on plastic packaging suppliers, and environmental consents for their manufacturing units.

As a Key Producer some responsibilities that become mandatory are:

Collection and channelisation of e-waste generated from the end-of-life products as per stated targets.

Ensuring its appropriate treatment and disposal methods including Hazardous materials.

Implement a public awareness program using effective channels to provide clear guidance on the proper handling and disposal of equipment after use.

Maintaining Records and Compliances for authorised EPR organisation.

Promoting Ethical Business Practices Eco Green provides a comprehensive solution as a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) partner, offering several key benefits:

CLEAN e-INDIA is a prominent Eco Green initiative designed to ensure the organized collection, management, and recycling of electronic waste in a responsible and sustainable manner.

Integrated Collection Network: This initiative creates a broad consumer e-waste collection network, incorporating the informal sector into the organized supply chain.

Environmentally Responsible Processing: E-waste collected under CLEAN e-INDIA is processed using clean technology to minimize environmental impact.

Consumer Incentives: Participants in the program are incentivized to properly dispose of their e-waste.

Nationwide Reach: The initiative is active in major cities, which are significant sources of electronic waste.

Collaborative Approach: CLEAN e-INDIA connects stakeholders across the value chain, including individual and bulk consumers, waste pickers, and aggregators, to efficiently collect and manage end-of-life electronics sustainably.
